You’ll Shoot Your Eye Out
So Karen and I have been bombarded by a flurry of requests from Andy this week to use his remaining birthday money to buy an airsoft gun. Kind of like a BB gun, but rather than shooting metal BB’s it shoots plastic pellets. The guns have quickly begun to replace paintball guns as the choice of many for simulated war games.
This all started with a neighbor kid who got one, and while we are excited by this new interest we also want to make sure Andy understands that we treat all guns – even airsoft guns – as if they were the real thing. We had another Andy stop by (the cool “older” Andy that our Andy looks up to with awe and respect), and share with the monkey his airsoft guns, and talk through various rules that he enforces when he and his friends play. For now, Aray’s personal funds are still a little low, and he hasn’t quite passed the gun respect test that Dad is aiming for. Until then, I’m starting to look at airsoft guns for myself. If it’s an arms race he wants then it is an arms race he will get . . .

My, how quickly they grow… Next he’ll be shaving.
I think the pictures are hilarious. His hands barely fit around the handle of the pistol, and the shotgun looks to be as big as him. He also struggled to cock the spring in both guns on his own, which caused the guns to be aimed in awkward dangerous directions.
Shaving . . . For now the only hair growth going on is the mop on his head. He has been adamant that we can’t cut it until it’s over his eyes. We have Jay Schreiner to blame for that (Another cool older person looked up to with awe). It’s cool actually – makes me look like the front man of a band, and everyone knows the chicks dig the singers.
