God’s Eye View

Published by gchastain at 9:51 am under Random

Satellite imagery has become so pervasive that in many ways we simply take it for granted.  With Google Maps and Google Earth, there’s very little of the earth’s surface that we can’t see.  Recently a group of Australia based artists called the Glue Society recreated some scenes from the Bible using Google Earth.  James Dive speaking for the Glue Society said, “We like to disorientate audiences a little with our work.  As a method of representation, satellite photography is so trusted, it has been interesting to mess with that trust.”  I trust God’s eye view would have been much more intimate in all of these events, but found these photos to be an interesting reflection on technology, and the ways it colors our perception on reality.
