Some Would Call It Obsessive . . .
This evening, Karen, Andy and I drove an hour over to Tigard to watch the new U2 movie, U23D at the local IMAX theater. U23D was filmed during the South American swing of the 2006 Vertigo tour, and is basically a concert done in digital 3d. Technically, it was pretty cool to watch. At times it gave you the impression that you were right there in the middle of the crowd, and this reality was only enhanced by the digital sound of the IMAX theater. As a fan I was impressed not only with the visual effects, but also felt that the film did a great job of capturing the emotion and passion of a live event. While still not as good as being there yourself, this would certainly be the next best thing.
The funny part was watching Andy reaching out and trying to grab mic stands and other objects that just seemed to hover right there in front of us, and while he eventually got bored, he was pretty enthralled for the first hour. The movie is well worth checking out if you get a chance. You can read a review here, and hit the main page to find showtimes and locations by clicking on the picture below.
