School Days
Last week Andy set off on a new adventure, heading off to kindergarten, and the beginning of his education. He’s at school for a half day five days a week, and after some initial concerns and fears seems to be enjoying himself. His first day was open to the parents, and Karen and I joined him as he got to know his teacher, classroom, and classmates. On his first full day without mom and dad, he stepped up into the bus with determination, and marched off to class with a wave goodbye.
It sure was quiet around home that afternoon, and I’m not sure Karen and I knew what to do with ourselves. The school is good, his teacher is great, and we are happy to help once a week. Karen is in the class one day, and I help for an hour in the computer lab on another day. Andy comes home each day, and tells us that he worked on A’s or E’s, or that he did a maze. We’re sure there’s more, but he’s a man of few words. In the last few days, he has been adamant about doing “homework” though none has been assigned, and so we happily oblige the practice of writing letters, and numbers or reading a few books. Anyway, here’s some pictures for you to see.

Perhaps the funniest thing of all so far, was the day Andy had to get his school pictures taken. The night before he was not so sure that he wanted to do this, and had lots of questions about why he had to have his picture taken. Karen pulled out my old baby book, and showed Andy pictures of his daddy from first grade. They talked how it would be a way to remember his classmates, and his teacher, and all the fun things he did. He simply looked at my 70’s haircut, and asked, “Why’s Daddy got girl hair?
