Goodbye to Jet . . . Hello to Pepper
Last week we said goodbye to Jet, our black lab mix, sadly deciding to put her down. Jet’s allergies continued to get worse, and after 4 different dog foods, and repeated steroid treatments from the vet, we decided it was time for Jet to rest. She would literally scratch and chew herself all day, and most of the night before finally giving into exhaustion at about 3 in the morning. She was buried at the Gering farm with all the other Gering dogs. Andy took the news pretty well. He cried for his dog when he learned the news, but has done well since.
A few days later we visited the pound, and Karen fell for an 11 month old female terrier lab mix. The pound had named her Maisy, but we’ve since changed it to Pepper, and brought her home today.
She needs some training in a bad way, but seems very smart. Of course she is easily distracted, and getting her to focus is tough, especially as Andy had all the neighbor kids coming over all day to see his new dog. She loves to play, and has already tried to engage Turbo the cat in a game or two, but Turbo sadly wants nothing to do with the new addition. After a few swipes at her nose, Pepper is thinking twice about Turbo. Thankfully, I’m certain they will get along just fine in the coming weeks, once Turbo helps Pepper understand that he is the top dog in the home.
